This is a tune I've been writing in response to what's been happening at the U.S. - Mexican border in the last year. Though the lyrics start off critical of the powers that be, the piece ends with an upbeat "plan" on how to create change. I enjoyed playing a variety of instruments on "Walled Out", from upright bass to kalimba (from Zimbabwe) to Moog synth to baglamas (from Greece.) Please check out the Walled Out "official music video" as well! youtu.be/PxRrew1qRvY
lyrics
Walled out, jailed in, I'm shakin' my head it's a sin.
Walled out, jailed in, so unfair I'm shakin' my head.
I'm shakin' my head it's a sin.
So unfair I'm shakin' my head.
Shakin’ my, shakin’ my, shakin’ my, shakin’ my, shakin’ my, shakin’ my
Shakin’ my shakin’ my shakin’ my, shakin’ my head!
Government oppression funded by the U.S. regime, (walled out!)
Walk the walk, crawl the crawl, desperate emigrating. (jailed in!)
Walled out, your entrance stalled out, kids with their mamas getting stopped by police papas.
Jailed in, presidents are failin', forget about your rights no love for Latino beings.
Your journey's behind but you can't find your faith.
Children deserve, a future free and safe.
Walled out, your entrance stalled out, kids with their mamas getting stopped by police papas.
Jailed in, presidents are failin', forget about your rights no love for Latino beings.
Bring ‘em to prison.
Bring ‘em to prison.
Skin brown tan black,
Hit the brick can't go back.
Soul breaks gun attack,
Sister brother deck is stacked.
Call in, we need to welcome, kids with their mamas and Latino papas,
Let you in, I want to change things, give human rights and love to immigrant beings.
Give human rights and love to innocent beings.
[invented language]
Hmmm, make it fair, just nod our heads.
Just nod our heads here, yea, mmm, make it fair.
Call out, call in, I'm nodding my head let you in.
Call out, call in, make it fair let's not our heads.
Call out, call in.
Greet you, embrace you, bring you bring you bring you, welcome you in.
